Deletion for the Babu app
This page belongs to the Babu app, published by «Vorname Nachname». It explains how to delete your account and the associated data, and exactly what happens when you do.
If you never switched syncing on, you do not have an account. Your records are then held only on your device, and section 2 is all you need.
Deleting the data on your device
- Open Babu and go to Settings.
- Choose Privacy, then Delete all data.
- Confirm when asked.
The local database is deleted immediately and permanently, not merely flagged as deleted. This cannot be undone. If you want to keep the data, use the export in the settings first.
Removing the app alone does not delete data on the server if you have an account. Section 3 covers that.
Deleting your account and server data
- Open Babu and go to Settings.
- Choose Account, then Delete account.
- Confirm when asked. The account is deleted straight away; no email confirmation is needed.
You do not need to contact support for this. If you have already removed the app, section 5 gives the route by email.
What is deleted, what remains, and for how long
Case A: you are the last member of the household
The household and everything attached to it is deleted immediately and with no retention period:
- details about the child (name, date of birth, due date, sex)
- sleep records including wakings and settling methods
- feeds, expressed milk and its storage
- nappies, temperature readings, medication
- growth measurements, crying episodes, teeth, milestones, activities
- daily mood and day markers
- your own recipes and saved list
- stored estimates from previous days
- your user account itself, with sign-in details and all active sessions
Case B: someone remains in the household
Your membership ends and your user account is deleted. The records remain, because they belong to the other parent as well: they are that person’s records about the same child.
An app in which one parent can wipe everything from the other at the press of a button would have a bigger problem than an unresolved one. The right to erasure under Article 17 GDPR does not extend to data another person keeps about the same child.
If the household was assigned to you, that role passes to the longest-standing remaining member. Invitations already redeemed stay marked as used but lose the link to you.
If you want nothing at all to remain, agree it with the second parent first: once every member has deleted their account, Case A applies to the last person and the household disappears entirely.
Individual entries you deleted earlier
When you delete a single entry in the app, a deletion marker remains on the server at first. It is needed so that the second parent’s device picks the deletion up rather than re-uploading the entry at the next sync. That marker and the associated data are removed permanently after 90 days.
That is the only additional retention period there is. It does not apply to deleting the account itself.
What we do not hold in the first place
Payment details sit with Apple or Google, not with us. Deleting your account does not end an active subscription: that is managed in the App Store or Google Play and must be cancelled there.
If you have already removed the app
Write to us from the email address you signed in with:
We delete the account under the same rules as above and confirm when it is done. We reply within one month (Article 12(3) GDPR), and usually far sooner.
Please do not send us identity documents. If we have doubts about who you are, we will ask about a specific detail only the account holder could know.
